Job Description

Location This role is for Breathe’s new location in Horsham, West Sussex: “The Mill” Purpose of the Role The Hyperbaric Practitioner is responsible for delivering safe, calm and consistent hyperbaric oxygen therapy sessions while providing a premium member experience. The role combines practical chamber operation, pre-session observations, oxygen safety, infection control, clear documentation and compassionate support for members attending Breathe for recovery, wellbeing and long-term health goals. Hyperbaric practitioners are also responsible for administering red light photobiomodulation therapy to members, many of whom have this therapy after a red-light session to maximise the clinical and wellness benefits. This portion of the role simply requires an introductory brief for first-time users and operating the machine once a member is settled in the red light bed and ready. This is a hands-on role for someone who is observant, caring, structured and dependable. It requires excellent attention to detail, the confidence to follow protocols, and the judgement to escalate concerns rather than trying to solve clinical issues outside the role boundary. About Breathe At Breathe, we are building a high-standard health, recovery and longevity service in beautifully designed spaces that feel calm, human and reassuring. We combine hyperbaric oxygen therapy, photobiomodulation and wider wellbeing services with disciplined operational standards, safety systems and genuine care. Our ambition is to become one of the UK’s leading providers of safe, accessible, and affordable hyperbaric and recovery services. As the business grows, this role offers meaningful career progression into senior practitioner, safety, training, management and specialist service pathways. Key Responsibilities 1. Hyperbaric Session Delivery • Prepare, operate and monitor hyperbaric oxygen therapy sessions in line with Breathe protocols. • Complete pre-session checks before every session, including member readiness, chamber readiness, oxygen delivery setup and emergency access checks. • Record pre-session observations such as blood pressure, pulse and oxygen saturation where required by protocol. • Confirm that the member has no new contraindication, acute illness, ear/sinus issue, infection, medication change or concern that requires escalation before treatment. • Support members before, during, and after sessions, including first-time users and anxious members. • Maintain session timing, safe pressurisation/depressurisation flow and calm communication throughout. • Follow chamber start-up, in-session monitoring, 15-minute/session check and shutdown routines exactly as trained. 2. Safety, Risk Control and Escalation • Apply Breathe’s oxygen safety, fire safety, static control, prohibited items, and personal products policy consistently. • Identify and escalate abnormal observations, member distress, difficulty equalising, breathlessness, chest pain, dizziness, anxiety, equipment concerns or any change in presentation. • Understand the limits of the practitioner role: do not diagnose, prescribe or give medical advice outside approved scripts and escalation pathways. • Follow emergency procedures calmly, including stopping a session, calling senior support, contacting emergency services where required and documenting the incident. • Report incidents, near misses, equipment issues and policy deviations promptly and accurately. • Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times. 3. Member Care and Experience • Welcome members warmly and help them feel informed, safe and looked after. • Explain the session process clearly using approved, uncomplicated language, especially for new members. • Create a reassuring, friendly, and supportive environment for members with chronic conditions, fatigue, anxiety, pain, post-viral symptoms or complex health histories. • Listen carefully, notice changes in wellbeing and communicate concerns to the appropriate senior colleague. • Help maintain Breathe’s calm, premium, members’ club atmosphere without compromising clinical and operational discipline. 4. Records, Compliance and Operational Standards • Maintain accurate treatment records, observations, session notes and incident reports using Breathe systems. • Complete controlled forms and checklists fully and on time. • Prepare and reset chambers between sessions, including cleaning, infection control, laundry and presentation standards. • Ensure chambers, masks, tubing, consumables and treatment areas are ready before the next appointment. • Support reception, bookings, enquiries and general site operations during busy periods. • Take ownership of small details that affect safety, comfort and member confidence. Attention to detail is a crucial part of ensuring a positive member experience. 5. Learning, Development and Team Contribution • Complete Breathe’s practitioner training pathway and any required external hyperbaric safety training. • Participate in refresher training, emergency drills, clinical governance updates and operational reviews. • Build understanding of HBOT, oxygen safety, contraindications, pre-session observations and related therapies. • Contribute ideas for improving member experience, safety checks, documentation and daily workflow. • Support new colleagues as the business grows and standards are scaled across locations. Person Specification Essential Attributes • Calm, compassionate and naturally reassuring with members. • Highly organised, reliable and punctual. • Excellent attention to detail and willingness to follow protocols precisely. • Confident communicating with members, colleagues and senior staff. • Able to stay composed under pressure and escalate concerns appropriately. • Comfortable working in a structured, safety-critical environment. • Takes pride in cleanliness, presentation and the overall member experience. • Positive, proactive and willing to learn. Helpful Experience • Healthcare, care, clinical support, emergency response, wellness, fitness, spa, hospitality or premium customer-service experience. • Experience supporting people with chronic illness, anxiety, disability, fatigue or complex needs. • First Aid qualification or willingness to complete First Aid training. • Experience using booking systems, member records, checklists or operational systems. Training and Qualifications No prior hyperbaric experience is required. Breathe will provide structured training with internationally recognised certification and will fund appropriate professional development for the right candidate. • Internal Breathe hyperbaric and red light photobiomodulation practitioner training. • Oxygen safety, fire safety and emergency procedure training. • Pre-session observations and escalation training. • Infection control and chamber reset training. • Customer experience and member-care training. • Relevant external hyperbaric safety or practitioner certification where required by the role. Reward and Benefits • Salary up to £33,000 per year, depending on experience and capability. • Annual performance bonus opportunity, subject to company and individual performance. • Long-Term Incentive Plan eligibility for selected team members as Breathe grows, subject to role level, performance, tenure and scheme rules. • Paid training and professional development. • Employee discount on selected Breathe treatments and services. • Wellness benefits and access to selected internal services where appropriate. • Career progression as Breathe expands across additional sites and service lines. • A comfortable working environment and a calm, high-quality clinic setting. What Success Looks Like • Sessions run safely, calmly, on time and in line with protocol. • Members feel informed, reassured and well cared for. • Pre-session observations, checklists and records are accurate and complete. • Concerns are escalated early and appropriately. • Chambers and treatment rooms are consistently clean, prepared and beautifully presented. • The practitioner becomes a trusted member of the Breathe team and contributes to a culture of safety, care and continuous improvement. How to Apply Please send your CV and a short cover note explaining why you would be a strong fit for Breathe and what attracts you to a role combining member care, safety, hyperbaric therapy and high operational standards. Candidates may be invited to a group interview session to become familiar with the role and to determine if you are a suitable fit for the position.
